One identity for every campus device
We connected a school’s face-recognition gates, cashless vending machines and health kiosk, each running closed vendor software, to its own system, all on one identity.
- gate scans by September 2026
- ≈74,600
- of scanned students’ parents get an arrival alert
- ≈97%
- cashless vending machines (60 and 50 slots)
- 2
- students and teachers identified by card at the kiosk
- 1,217
Problem
A school’s face-recognition gates, snack vending machines and body-composition kiosk each ran closed vendor software with no link to the school’s own records.
Solution
We extended the gate vendor’s SDK and reverse-engineered the device protocols, so every scan now reaches the school system. It marks arrival or lateness, works out absences, feeds staff timesheets and sends parents a “your child has arrived” alert.
We replaced the vending machines’ software with our own Android apps that speak the controller board’s CRC serial protocol, so students pay with their school card from their balance.
We localised and integrated the health kiosk (553 strings translated into Mongolian), decoded its card reader’s USB-HID protocol and added a roster-sync service on the device itself. A card tap now files the results into the school doctor’s dashboard and the parent app.
Outcome
About 74,600 gate scans by September 2026, and the parents of roughly 97% of scanned students get an arrival alert. Two cashless vending machines (60 and 50 slots) are in production.
Since June 2026, 1,217 students and teachers can be identified by card at the kiosk. Vending, library, assets, buses and the kiosk all share one card number.
